Proxy advisory firm Proxy Governance recommended that shareholders of Interpublic Group of Cos (NYSE:IPG) . (IPG) split their votes for the company's board nominees.

The firm Tuesday recommended holders withhold votes for the incumbent compensation committee, stating the New York advertising company underperformed in its peer group, and executive compensation has been relatively out of line.

The committee members include Reginald Brack, Jill Considine, H. John Greeniaus and William Kerr, the firm said.

Proxy Governance also recommended approval of a measure that would allow an advisory vote by shareholders on executive compensation.

Shares of Interpublic were recently trading down 17 cents, or 1.7%, at $9.93.
