Retail Survey Report: LeapFrog, Van Heusen, Shoe Carnival

Leapfrog WordLaunch Not Selling Well at LeapFrog Enterprises
LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. the Emeryville, Calif. based maker of
technology-based learning products was just polled by Tickermine. This
was after the company's stock was completely dumped by one of its
investors, Tradeworx, Inc. Our surveyors approached 31 stores around
the country and asked the following: What toy do you have trouble
keeping in stock? What is your best selling toy? And which toy sells
best to the aged five to 10 market? Leap frog products themselves are
selling best apparently at these stores according to 39% of those
polled. RC Cars – Barbies are also selling well (according to 10%),
action figures, generated the same response and Glow a Doodle was cited
by 6% of respondents as their best-selling product. Of those Leapfrog
products sold, the Learning Game Systems are selling best (52% of the
responses). Leapfrog Fridge Phonics were cited by 10% of those we
interviewed and the LeapFrog WordLaunch was cited by 6%. And for the
aged five to ten year market the Leapster Learning Systems sell best
according to 19%. The Nintendo Wii were cited by 13% of respondents.
Ten percent of those polled mentioned the Didj Custom Gaming System and
6% referenced the Clifford Reading products.
Dress Shirts Are Tops for Van Heusen

recently surveyed Phillips-Van Heusen and found that dress shirts are
the line's most popular item of clothing right now, with 90% of stores
surveyed saying that dress shirts are their best seller. Ninety-three
percent of respondents said they have enough dress shirts in stock, and
all stores said they could acquire more if necessary. Thirty percent of
stores surveyed said they expect a new Van Heusen clothing line to
arrive soon, with possibilities including jackets, casual wear, and
men's business attire. Forty percent of stores surveyed said worries
about the economy have impacted their sales. Stores surveyed included
JCPenney, Macy's, and Dillard's, among others.
Almost Half of Shoe Carnival's Customers Spend Under $50 Per Visit
Shoe Carnival Inc., was quizzed by Tickermine this week.
Representatives at 24 stores were consulted and asked which shoes sell
best? Which appeal most to teenagers? Which popular brand do you not
stock? How does business compare from last year? How much are customers
spending per visit? And are there more items on sale versus before? The
most popular selling items were NIKE shoes and also sandals. With
teenagers NIKE was the most popular brand for 63% of those polled. 16%
of those polled mentioned Sketchers. And Adidas was cited by 8%. 8% of
those interviewed said that Nine West was the brand that they don't
stock but is frequently requested. Sports Jerseys was also cited by
another 8%. Other brands mentioned include Ugg from Australia, Keen and
Puma. 50% of those interviewed said business was up from a year ago.
21% said it was down. And 29% said it was the same. But stores are
seeing more items on sale. 58% of those polled said they are seeing
more discounts. 21% said they are seeing less. And another 21% said
sales were about the same. Consequently, 46% of Shoe Carnival customers
are spending less than $50 per visit. 42% are spending between
$50-$100. Only 13% are spending $100-$200 per shopping spree.
