Ease of Use, Accuracy and Detail Cited as Reasons for Use of Maps in Local Fire Trucks
OMAHA, Neb., July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- When members of the Omaha
Fire Department (OFD) needed an easy way to navigate the best routes around
the city, they turned to a new source -- the Dex(R) Yellow Pages.
The total land area for Omaha is 193 miles -- a lot of territory for the
OFD to cover, especially with their average response time of under four
minutes. In order to make it easier to find the most direct route to a
specific location, the OFD asked Dex to supply them with copies of maps --
including city and street maps -- from the 2008 Omaha Dex Yellow Pages.
'Dex Yellow Pages maps are very easy to read, accurate and highly
detailed,' said Captain James Gentile, OFD. 'Our crews really like Dex's
maps, and use them to find alternate routes around the city and train new
recruits who may be unfamiliar with the area.'
After the OFD requested oversize maps to place in their fire trucks, Dex
responded by providing a series of laminated, large-scale representations of
the detailed maps found in the company's print directories. Now the
firefighters refer to the maps while responding to a call.
'We're proud to assist the OFD and, by extension, the citizens of Omaha,'
said Ric Jensen, regional marketing manager, Dex. 'The fact that the OFD
requested copies of our maps is a testament to the maps' accuracy and detail.'
Omaha city and street maps can be found in the Community Pages section of
the 2008 Omaha Dex Yellow Pages. In addition to the maps, the Community Pages
also include information on local venues and events, including sports
stadiums, parks and recreation, theaters and more.
Yellow Pages remain a vital resource for adults seeking local businesses.
According to a recent Knowledge Networks/SRI Industry Usage Study,
approximately 87 percent of the U.S. population used the print Yellow Pages in
2007. Yellow Pages usage -- including print and online searches -- grew to
17.2 billion searches in 2007, up from 16.7 billion in 2006.
