Jul. 30--RIO HONDO -- The city's utilities department has extended its boil water notice another day.
The warning initially ended Tuesday, but was extended to Wednesday, City Administrator Arturo Prida said.
It may be extended again, he added.
The notice was first issued on July 25, after the water service was restored to customers.
A news release sent from Mayor Santiago Saldana stated that the water was tested Monday. Those results aren't available yet, making the extension of the boil notice necessary, Prida said.
The second round of mosquito spraying was done Tuesday night, Prida said. With a new machine and new chemicals, Prida said city workers would continue spraying every 48 hours, as recommended by the health department.
On Tuesday, Prida said the affects of Hurricane Dolly were being remedied.
"Everything is fine," he said, adding that the city has no closed roads. "Everything is back to normal."
Brush from fallen branches and uprooted trees is slowly being picked up by the city's contracted trash company, Allied Waste.
The city's brush is being taken to the city's sewer plant, he added. Allied Waste workers have been collecting brush throughout the weekend, Prida said.
"We're really thankful," he said about the cleanup.
To complete the cleanup, Prida said the city entered an interlocal agreement with Cameron County to have another company assist with removing brush from city streets.
