Sweepstakes Gives Participants a Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity to
Run the Nike+ Human Race Twice on Two Continents in Melbourne and Los
Angeles
As runners continue to register for the Nike+ Human Race, to be held on
Aug. 31, 2008 in 25 cities around the world and anywhere with Nike+,
they now have the chance to make history by running two races on the
same day on different continents. With the Nike+ Human Race 10K Plane
sweepstakes, Nike (NYSE:NKE) is partnering with Air New Zealand to fly
five runners and one guest each to Australia on Aug. 27 to run the Nike+
Human Race in Melbourne at 9 a.m. on Aug. 31, then fly back to the
United States across the International Date Line to run the race in Los
Angeles at 8:31:08 p.m. PDT. The Nike+ Human Race will be the world’s
biggest one-day running event and Nike’s first
global race. The race brings together the power of sport and music to
inspire and connect runners from every corner of the planet.
Participants in this unprecedented event will experience an exclusive
music performance by some of today’s top
artists in each of the designated race cities.
Winners of the Nike+ Human Race 10K Plane sweepstakes will enjoy
concerts by Hilltop Hoods and Faker in Melbourne, and nine-time Grammy
Award winning artist Kanye West who will headline the post-race concert
in Los Angeles. Four seats will be awarded to Nike+ members on www.nikeplus.com
with the fifth and final seat awarded to the winner of the sweepstakes
who signs up at one of Nike’s retail stores
across the U.S. The end date for the sweepstakes is Aug. 15.
“The Nike+ Human Race 10K Plane is a
once-in-a-lifetime, jet-setting opportunity that will allow participants
to run in the Nike+ Human Race 10K in both Australia and Los Angeles on
the same day,” said Ken Dice, Vice President
of U.S. Brand Marketing. “Winners will
appreciate the rock star treatment Nike and Air New Zealand will give
them on the flight and every step of the way as they make an incredibly
unique journey around the world to run the Nike+ Human Race twice on two
continents.”
While cities around the world are beginning to sell out, there is still
room to register for the U.S. races in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles and
New York City. All-star artists confirmed to play at the Nike+ Human
Race include chart-topping rock band All-American Rejects in NY;
hometown favorite Fall Out Boy in Chicago; and Ben Harper and the
Innocent Criminals in Austin.
In London, runners will be treated to an exclusive performance by
world-renowned American DJ, songwriter, musician and singer Moby in the
city’s famed Wembley Stadium. Other all-star
artists confirmed to play at the Nike+ Human Race include R&B songstress
Kelly Rowland in Paris; dance-electro-pop duo The Pinker Tones in
Madrid; Turkish pop sensation Kenan Dogulu in Istanbul; the Fantastic
Four in Munich; Beijing-based singing duo Yu Quan in Shanghai and

With the help of Nike+ and the Nike+ SportBand, every city and every
road can become a race-day course.
“We think it’s
pretty phenomenal that our crew members operating the flight are running
the race after working a 12 hour flight,”
said Roger Poulton, Air New Zealand's Vice President for the Americas. “Air
New Zealand is thrilled to partner with Nike and even more thrilled that
our staff members are eager to participate in such a worthy cause.”
Beyond running and music, the Nike+ Human Race is also an opportunity to
give back. Participants will be able to run for a worthy cause and
support the three official Nike+ Human Race charitable partners: the
Lance Armstrong Foundation – uniting people
in the fight against cancer; WWF - the global conservation organization
addressing the causes and impacts of climate change; and the UN refugee
agency's www.ninemillion.org
campaign – bringing sport and education to
refugee youth. Together, Nike and runners will raise funds to donate at
least USD $3 million to the Nike+ Human Race charities. Money will be
raised via givebacks from registration fees, a percentage of Nike+ Human
Race t-shirt sales and a donation of USD $1 million from Nike. The Nike+
Human Race will also feature an online pledge tool so individual runners
can donate additional funds to the cause of their choice and invite
friends and family to contribute on their behalf.
