NEW YORK - Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Monday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

Verizon Communications Inc., up 71 cents at $35.30

The telecommunications company and two unions representing 65,000 workers who had threatened to strike agreed to a three-year contract.

Calpine Corp., up 61 cents at $16.60

Higher electricity rates and lower costs fueled a profit for the power producer, beating estimates, from a year-earlier loss.

Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings Inc., up $1.70 at $17.75

Overseas revenue was boosted by a weak dollar, and the outdoor advertising company reported a 17 percent rise in second-quarter profit.

Valspar Corp., up 84 cents at $24.47

The paint maker reaffirmed its full year outlook, saying price hikes and cost reductions should offset higher raw material costs and slower demand.

Diebold Inc., up $1.07 at $38.77

The maker of banking machines and voting equipment said preliminary quarterly profit fell, but raised its full-year revenue estimate.

NASDAQ

Amazon.com Inc., up $7.58 at $88.09

Citigroup analyst doubled his 2008 sales projection for the retailer's e-book reader, the Kindle, saying it could be a holiday hit.

UAL Corp., up $1.14 at $12.27

Shares of the United Air Lines operator, along with peers, gained as crude oil prices continued to ease, which reduces jet fuel costs.

AgFeed Industries Inc., up 21 cents at $12.77

The Chinese animal feed maker and pork producer gave a 2008 profit and revenue outlook range ahead of Wall Street's expectations.tracking
