Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:ESIO), a leading provider of world-class photonic and laser systems for micro-engineering applications, today announced the shipment of the company’s 250th Model 5330 laser microvia drilling system. This shipment enables ESI to mark an important milestone: ESI has now shipped its 700th overall laser micromachining system to date. The demand for ever-smaller microvias in IC packaging and flex circuits in a cost-effective solution continues to drive the increased adoption of ESI’s laser micromachining systems.

Addressing today's most advanced microvia drilling requirements, the Model 5330 incorporates a high-power, diode-pumped laser with a pulse repetition frequency of up to 70 kHz. This laser configuration furthers ESI’s ability to deliver solutions that produce high-quality microvias in small-geometry circuit boards and flexible circuits.

Dr. R.A. Srinivas, ESI vice president of marketing, explained, “The achievement of these milestones represents ESI’s continued efforts to develop cost-effective, leading-edge laser solutions. Matched with our close customer relationships, we leverage our expertise in optics and illumination, laser material interaction, and systems engineering to produce world-class laser solutions for our global micromachining customers. We look forward to reaching new milestones and furthering our commitment to providing exceptional laser solutions for our customers’ evolving, high-volume manufacturing needs.”
