GOLDMAN SACHS GROUP (GS)
Deutsche Bank reportedly downgrades Goldman to hold from buy. Oppenheimer reportedly cuts third quarter, full-year fiscal 2008 and fiscal 2009 EPS estimates.
UBS AG (UBS)
UBS posts 0.17 Swiss franc second-quarter loss per share from continuing operationss vs. 2.36 Swiss francs EPS one year earlier. Cites realized, unrealized losses on legacy risk positions, mainly on exposures related to U.S. residential real estate related securities and other credit positions. UBS says that in the 2008 second half it does not expect to see any improvement in adverse economic, financial market trends that affected second-quarter results.
JPMORGAN CHASE & CO. (JPM)
JPMorgan Chase provided evidence of more turbulence in financial markets, warning that stormy credit conditions had forced it to take a $1.5 billion writedown on mortgage-backed assets in July, according to a report on FT.com. The warning by JPMorgan will reinforce investors worries over the length and breadth of the financial crisis.
VERASUN ENERGY CORP. (VSE)
VeraSun posts second-quarter EPS of 15 cents, vs. 19 cents one year earlier, as a sharp increase in shares outstanding vs. a year ago offset a sharp increase in revenue.
TURBOCHEF TECHNOLOGIES, INC. (OVEN)
TurboChef agrees to be acquired by Middleby Corp. (MIDD) for approximately $200 million in cash and stock. Terms: $3.67 in cash and 0.0486 Middleby share for each TurboChef share held. Separately, TurboChef posted a 22-cent second quarter loss per share vs. a 22-cent loss one year earlier on an 8% revenue drop.
FLUOR CORP. (FLR)
Fluor posted second quarter EPS of $1.13 vs. 53 cents one year earlier on a 37% revenue rise. The company notes that second-quarter 2008 results include a pre-tax gain of $79 million, or 26 cents per share, from thje sale of Fluors joint venture interest in the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm project. Fluor raised its $3.30-$3.45 2008 EPS guidance to $3.65-$3.80.
WATSON WYATT WORLDWIDE, INC. (WW)
Watson Wyatt posted fourth-quarter EPS of 95 cents, vs. 71 cents one year earlier, on a 17% revenue rise. The company sees first-quarter EPS of 82-85 cents on $433-$443 million in revenue and $3.70-$3.77 fiscal 2009 EPS on $1.85-$1.9 billion in revenue.
