(Source: Business Wire)trackingLenovo announced that The Dow Chemical Company has deployed more than 44,000 ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops throughout its offices worldwide to support increased productivity, flexibility and improved computing reliability.

Dow transitioned its workforce located in more than 160 countries to the new fleet of Lenovo computers within six months using Lenovo ThinkVantage Technologies, a suite of self-help productivity tools that come preloaded on every ThinkPad notebook and ThinkCentre desktop. Utilizing the Lenovo System Migration Assistant, which transfers files and settings from a user's old computer to his or her new PC, Dow reduced individual employee time spent migrating data by 75 percent. In addition, Lenovo's order-to-delivery speed allowed Dow to implement rollouts using a near zero inventory-on-hand strategy to eliminate storage costs and complete the company-wide refresh quickly.

"This PC deployment was one of the largest in Dow's history and made as seamless as possible because of our decision to use Lenovo PCs with ThinkVantage Technologies," said Mack Murrell, vice president, Information Systems, The Dow Chemical Company. "Our new Lenovo solution aligns to our Information Systems strategy by simplifying network security and daily data back-ups to effectively manage our growing global, mobile workforce. The easy wireless connectivity on our ThinkPad notebooks provides reliable and fast access to information."

Dow and Lenovo developed the current Dow Workstation to include an easily accessible internal Web portal via a button on employees' computers that connects them to other Dow personnel, as well as to company information, security patches and downloads to maintain a standardized software and security image. The Dow Workstation is the centerpiece of Dow's IT toolkit allowing employees to optimize the way they work and truly enabling a global, mobile workforce.

The workstation implementation includes Energy Star 4.0 rated ThinkPad T60 and T60p notebooks and ThinkCentre M52 desktops. These models support Dow's commitment to sustainability by helping to reduce the company's overall carbon footprint and controlling energy costs. Approximately one-third of Dow employees utilize a fingerprint reader on their ThinkPad notebook for easy and secure access to information. In addition, Lenovo's Active Protection System on every employee's ThinkPad notebook helps protect the system hard drive in case of an accidental fall or sudden movement. This technology helps Dow to efficiently manage service and support costs.

The Lenovo deployment marks Dow's 12th consecutive year utilizing Think-branded products to maintain maximum employee productivity. The company is reviewing new Lenovo notebooks that are thinner and lighter with higher-end graphic capabilities.
