Aug. 17--Hospital board members honored

Two members of the Ector County Hospital District's board of directors were honored recently by Texas Healthcare Trustees.

David Dunn and Mary Thompson received the award of excellence in governance or continuing excellence in governance at the organization's conference in July in San Antonio.

The award recognizes individuals serving on hospital boards who "achieve knowledge and skills in governance and strive to keep that knowledge current through education."

Texas Healthcare Trustees is an affiliate of the Austin-based Texas Hospital Association. It represents approximately 450 hospital governing boards.

Flint Hills record

Flint Hills Resources is touting its safety and environmental records for 2007.

The company says its air emissions per barrel were 68 percent lower than the average among peer refiners.

The company also claims to have reduced flare times at its plants by 89.7 percent since 1999.

Flint Hills is also proud of its recycling programs for water, wastewater, trash, paper and steel. It says 6 percent of the water discharged at its Pine Bend plant can be re-used.

Employees at the company's Odessa Chemical Plant went more than 1 million hours without an injury resulting in days away from work in 2007. The plant's record of 343 days without a serious injury ended the following month.

Companies post losses

Two Midland companies reported a net loss for the second quarter of 2008.

Clayton Williams Energy announced it had lost $21.2 million, or $1.75 per share. That's compared to a net income of $8.8 million for the same period in 2007.

Concho Resources reported a net loss of $14.4 million, compared to net income of $5.9 million for the same time period last year.

Clayton Williams reported a 79 percent increase in oil and gas revenue for the second quarter of 2007, from $74.9 million to $134.3 million.

Concho reports it has $162.9 million in net cash provided by operating activities in the first six months of 2008, a 156 percent increase during the same period in 2007.

Effective statement

The delivery of shares of Platinum Energy to shareholders of Midland-based Tandem Energy is expected to commence soon, according to a news release.

In October 2007, Platinum acquired the assets of Tandem, an in­dependent oil and gas exploration and production company. In exchange, Tandem received 7,692,308 shares of common stock and repayment of certain Tandem debt.

Tandem was dissolved June 24. The distribution of Platinum shares to Tandem shareholders was declared effective by the Securities and Exchange Commission Aug. 8.
