Hershey Co., down $3.91 at $37.71

The candy maker lowered its 2008 and 2009 profit outlook and said it will hike prices by an average of 11 percent due to higher commodity costs.

Lowe's Companies Inc., up 4 cents at $24.54

While the home improvement goods retailer reported an 8 percent fall in quarterly profit amid a tough housing market, it still beat Wall Street estimates.

Fannie Mae, down $1.76 at $6.15

The U.S. Treasury might have to recapitalize the struggling mortgage financier, along with its smaller peer Freddie Mac, a media report said.

First Marblehead Corp., up $2.14 at $5.14

A Goldman Sachs unit invested $132.7 million in the student lender, which said former CEO Daniel Meyers will return to the job Sept. 1.

UnionBanCal Corp., up $7.69 at $73.18

Japanese bank Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. raised its bid to gain full ownership of the bank to $73.50 a share, in a deal worth $3.5 billion.

Trina Solar Ltd., down 84 cents at $30.14

The solar company's second-quarter margin fell from the first quarter, though profit more than doubled from a year ago on higher solar module shipments.

Cadence Design Systems Inc., up 10 cents at $7.74

The electronic design software maker withdrew a $1.45 billion bid for Mentor Graphics Corp. and authorized a new $500 million share buyback plan.

Focus Media Holding Ltd., up $2.30 at $28.55

Adjusted second-quarter profit and sales beat estimates and the Chinese advertising network operator gave a better-than-expected third-quarter profit outlook.
