Decreases OPEX & CAPEX by 70%

Veraz Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRAZ), the leading provider of Multimedia Generation Network application, control, and bandwidth optimization products, today announced that it has begun deploying its ControlSwitch™ and iMN Multimedia Delivery Platform softswitch and IMS solutions on Sun Microsystems’ Sun Netra™ T2000 server powered by the UltraSPARC® T1 processor. Veraz has been collaborating with Sun for several years deploying its solutions on earlier versions of Sun’s industry leading telecom grade servers including the Sun Netra 240.

The Netra T2000 server’s multi-core, multi-threaded processing architecture when combined with the virtualization capabilities of the Solaris™ 10 Operating System (OS) offers 3 to 5 times the performance of the Netra 240. This substantially reduces the required number of servers for a given deployment, dramatically lowering a service provider’s capital and operating costs. For example, a deployment scaled to support 72,000 concurrent sessions, which would have required at least 25 Netra 240 servers, can now be built using just 4 Netra T2000 servers. This not only reduces the rack space required by 84%, it also reduces the power required by 87% and the number of Ethernet ports by over 70%.

“Veraz offers robust and field-proven softswitch solutions that are able to take full advantage of the various features of our latest server and operating system,” said Mark Butler, Netra systems product line director, Sun Microsystems, Inc. “We had worked with Veraz previously to successfully demonstrate the capabilities of Solaris 10 for Telco deployments and are excited to see how the Netra servers with CoolThreads technology can extend the existing benefits of their offerings.”

“Using the Netra T2000 server and Solaris 10 operating system enhances our ability to optimize network resources and provides significant OPEX and CAPEX savings to our customers,” said Francesca Puggioni, Head Corporate Business Development, Veraz Networks. “Having worked with Sun for a number of years, we have built a great relationship and know we can rely on its carrier grade infrastructure equipment.”
