Company quickly surpasses 20,000 hours of Wi-Fi usage across
footprint of leading Nordic and Baltic locations
iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), a global provider of services that unify the
management of enterprise mobility, today announced it has recently seen
its 20,000th hour of Wi-Fi usage on the
TeliaSonera HomeRun Wi-Fi network which covers Sweden, Denmark, Norway,
Finland and Lithuania. iPass began activating the network this spring
after signing a roaming agreement with TeliaSonera, the leading
telecommunications company in the Nordic and Baltic regions. Since April
of this year, iPass users have been able to connect seamlessly to more
than 1,800 hotspots as the venues have rolled into the iPass roaming
network.
TeliaSonera HomeRun’s hotspot venues in
airports, railway stations, hotels, conference centers, vehicle service
areas and cafés, provide businesspeople with
reliable methods of connection, wherever their travels may take them.
iPass users are already making use of the new hotspots across the
region, which went live in April, with Sweden and Finland proving to be
the most popular countries. Hotels accounted for more than half of the
total connections with key locations including SAS Radisson, Best
Western, First Hotel, Holiday Inn, Ibis and Sokos. The most popular
hotel was the Quality Hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden, recording more than
500 hours of connectivity.
Other locations included Wayne’s Coffee houses
and more than 20 domestic and international airports, including Helsinki’s
Malmi and Vantaa airports, as well as Tampere-Pirkkala International
Airport which provides access to Finland’s
southwestern region. Stockholm’s international
airport proved to be most popular with users connecting not only within
the terminal itself, but also within the terminal’s
train station.
As with all of iPass’ roaming partner
networks, before becoming fully integrated, TeliaSonera HomeRun hotspots
went through the iPass Enterprise Ready certification process. This
involved testing the hotspots for high availability as well as
interoperability with policy and security tools, including a
comprehensive range of virtual private networks, personal firewalls and
anti-virus software packages. iPass currently provides customers with
access to more than 50,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in Europe and more than
100,000 worldwide.
“The Nordic and Baltic regions are becoming
ever more popular with business travelers,”
said René Hendrikse, Managing Director EMEA,
iPass. “We are delighted that iPass has
become TeliaSonera’s first software-based
inbound roaming partner, and thrilled with the success we have had in
the region with blue-chip enterprise customers such as Nokia, Scania and
the Volvo Group.”
