Aug. 28--VIRGINIA BEACH -- More than 1,000 people were without power this morning in Sandbridge after a tree fell into the road, taking power lines with it, dispatchers said.
The tree was reported down in the 800 block of Sandbridge Road about 4:30 a.m., dispatchers said.
At 6:15 a.m., police had the street blocked and were expecting it to be closed for about another hour, dispatchers said.
A little more than 1,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers in the area were without electricity at 6 a.m., according to the company's Web site. By 7:30 a.m., fewer than 250 customers in Virginia Beach were without power. It was unclear how many of those customers were affected by the fallen tree.
