PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Special Membership
Meeting, which the PFT had scheduled for 7 p.m., Monday, September 1st at
Temple University to brief PFT members on contract negotiations, has been
postponed, PFT President Jerry T. Jordan announced today.
The PFT and the School District of Philadelphia have agreed to extend the
current collective bargaining agreement, which was set to expire at 12:01
a.m., August 31.
A new collective bargaining agreement has not been reached.
'PFT members will continue to work under terms of our current, four-year
agreement while the PFT and the District continue working towards a long-term
contract,' Jordan said.
'We will continue to advocate for education programs that are proven to
work and for the resources and support that students and staff need to be
successful,' he said.
Jordan added that the PFT is committed to building a productive
partnership with the new administration.
'Together we must find ways to keep qualified professionals in the schools
and continue to raise test scores, as we have for six, consecutive years. To
achieve that, the PFT will keep working in good faith with the District to
reach an agreement that continues the progress our schools are making,' he
said.
The PFT represents approximately 16,000 teachers, librarians, nurses,
counselors, psychologists, social workers, secretaries, classroom assistants,
non-teaching assistants, professional-technical staff, Comprehensive Early
Learning Center and Head Start educators and staff and food service managers
employed in Philadelphia public schools.
