U.S. Patent Office Rejects Wider Networks’
Patent
PCTEL, Inc. (NASDAQ: PCTI), a leader in propagation and optimization
solutions for the wireless industry, announced today that the
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) responded favorably to PCTEL’s
request to reexamine a patent practiced by Wider Networks. This patent
failed to acknowledge PCTEL’s prior art and
technology, specifically technology pertaining to advanced interference
measurements. In their summary of action, the USPTO rejected all 13
claims of Wider Networks’ patent (Patent
Number: 6,754,487). The action by the USPTO supports PCTEL’s
strong intellectual property position in interference management for
cellular networks.
“We take seriously the infringement of our
technology. When others claim technology supremacy by filing claims that
fail to reference our prior art, we will take immediate and aggressive
action,” said Luis Rugeles, PCTEL’s
Vice-President and General Manager of its RF Solutions Group. “Our
CLARIFY® product utilizes technology that we
developed over several years. PCTEL’s
customers, management, and shareholders value that technology,”
added Rugeles.
PCTEL has been granted seven patents covering its scanning receiver and
CLARIFY products. These patents describe inventions that cover a range
of technologies. They have enabled PCTEL to achieve a leadership
position in its markets. Four issued patents and several pending patents
cover all aspects of the innovative technology that achieves superior
sensitivity and accuracy of interference measurements incorporated in
PCTEL’s CLARIFY product. One of these is the
patent that Wider Networks failed to disclose in its application for the
patent that was reexamined by the USPTO and whose claims have now been
rejected.
