Hanover County-based medical supplies distributor Owens & Minor Inc. said yesterday it completed its previously announced acquisition of assets of The Burrows Co. Burrows is a privately held, Chicago-based distributor of medical and surgical supplies to the acute-care market. The acquisition gives Owens & Minor a stronger presence in the Midwest. Burrows has nine distribution centers and serves about 950 customers, including urban and rural hospitals.
Owens & Minor announced in August that it would pay $30.2 million for Burrows and assume $50 million to $60 million in debt, subject to closing conditions.
Co-op seeks funding for part of reactor's cost
The Old Dominion Electric Cooperative is seeking a federal loan guarantee as the cooperative works with Dominion Virginia Power in considering the construction of a third nuclear reactor at the North Anna Power Station.
ODEC submitted the first part of an application for the loan guarantee on Sept. 25.
Under the proposal, the U.S. Department of Energy would guarantee a loan issued by the Federal Financing Bank. The loan proceeds would be used to finance a portion of ODEC's 11.6 percent share of the proposed third reactor.
ODEC has since 1983 owned an 11.6 percent share of the power generated by the two existing units at the North Anna plant, with Dominion Virginia Power owning the rest. Dominion Virginia Power operates the plant and would also operate the new reactor.
