(Source: Bangor Daily News)trackingBANGOR - Angus King, former independent governor of Maine, will host the first of three "Energy Solutions" town hall meetings at 6 tonight at the Bangor Public Library.

King, Maine's governor from 1992 to 2000, recently has been a staunch advocate for alternative energy sources and has pushed for investments in wind turbines offshore.

The town hall meetings are an opportunity for residents to learn about the energy plan of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, whom King endorses. Obama's plan, designed to end dependence on foreign oil and make strategic investments in clean energy to create 5 million new American jobs, also includes providing a $1,000 emergency energy rebate for Maine families.

King will ask residents to support the Keep ME Warm Fund, which provides home heating assistance and weatherization kits to Maine families. Obama's campaign in Maine is collecting donations for Keep ME Warm at offices around the state from today through the November election.

The former governor also will hold forums on Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Waterville and on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in South Paris.

The events are free and open to the public.
