Performance and Capacity Increases Provide a Cost-Effective Means to
Grow Subscriber Base While Positioning the Network to Accommodate New
and Emerging Services
Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in
session border control solutions, today announced that O1
Communications, a leading California-based provider of wholesale VoIP
solutions, has deployed Acme Packet’s Net-Net®
4500 to expand their SIP peering services to enable service providers to
originate and terminate voice calls throughout California via a single
IP connection.
The Net-Net 4500, deployed by O1 Communications as a session border
controller (SBC), provides secure and seamless interconnection of IP
networks for multiple services and applications offered to small and
medium-sized enterprises throughout the West Coast and to service
providers worldwide.
The Net-Net 4500 is a recently-announced addition to the Net-Net 4000
series that increases performance and capacity by 100% or more in SBC,
multiservice security gateway (MSG) and session routing proxy (SRP)
product configurations. Positioned between the Net-Net 4250 and Net-Net
9200 in terms of price, performance and capacity, the Net-Net 4500
satisfies service provider, large enterprise and contact center
requirements at both network access and interconnect border points.
Enhancements offered by the Net-Net 4500, as compared to the Net-Net
4250, its companion system in Acme Packet’s
Net-Net 4000 series, span four specific areas, each of which will
provide significant benefits to both O1 Communications and its customers:
-
100% increase in media capacity – the
higher base capacity content addressable memory (CAM) offered by the
Net-Net 4500 enhances access control, supports more subscriber
endpoints and provides greater protection against denial of service
(DoS) attacks.
-
100% increase in routing capacity – memory
twice that of the Net-Net 4250 will support significantly more route
entries and ENUM-based services, key enablers for O1’s
“Best Voice Path”
routing.
-
Greater than 100% increase in signaling performance - the
Net-Net 4500, offering best-of-breed signaling performance in a
carrier-grade 1RU chassis, enables O1 to deliver optimal call quality
and assure the service level agreements (SLAs) of its customers
through faster and more efficient call admission control (CAC) and QoS
marking and reporting. QoS reporting performance is additionally
enhanced through optional hardware located on the Network Interface
Unit (NIU) of the Net-Net 4500.
-
Enhanced hardware-based security acceleration - improved VPN
performance is made available to O1’s
customers with Net-Net 4500 hardware options that accelerate VPN
session establishment and encryption. The Net-Net 4500 Secure Services
Module (SSM) provides onboard acceleration for IPsec/IKE and TLS
session establishment, while configurable hardware located on the NIU
provide dramatically improved encryption performance.
“Our subscriber base expects nothing less
than the highest levels of voice service quality even in the presence of
increasing call volumes,” said Brad Jenkins,
President and CEO for O1 Communications, Inc. “As
we expanded our network, the Net-Net 4500 was the easy and logical
choice – we doubled our session performance
and capacity relative to our installed Net-Net 4250s by simply loading
the same configuration file.”
“We are thrilled that Acme Packet has been
offered the opportunity to play a continuing role in the expansion of O1
Communications’ network,”
said Seamus Hourihan, VP of Marketing and Product Management for Acme
Packet. “The Net-Net 4500 is an excellent
complement to the Net-Net 4250 systems that O1 Communications has
already deployed and will provide them with the flexibility, performance
and capacity needed to fuel the continued growth and expansion of their
services.”
